CREATIVITY
I am a therapist with a creative background. I DJ and enjoy writing. My passion for music informed my MA research which explored music and self expression in psychotherapy. In private practice, I have worked with clients in film, music, performance, and literature.
I believe that creativity and creative expression is fundamental to being human. We all have the ability to imagine, play, explore, create and to dream. In today’s fast paced world, engaging in creative activities can be a great way to switch off, relax and de-stress. The act of creating something, whether it be painting, drawing, or simply doodling, can clear your mind and find a sense of calm.
Therapy too is a creative practice through it’s invitation to play, explore, and experiment. Working creatively in therapy can help us to: discover new and unconscious parts of ourselves; experiment with a different narrative or way of being; and put aside words and the ‘knowing mind’ to discover alternate forms of expression. In a session, this may involve working with creative writing, drawing or music, as well as dreams and visualisations. Body psychotherapy and role-play can also support personal exploration and self-expression.
